7 Reasons Why I Love to be a Work at Home Mom and Why You Should Too

When I tell people that I work from home, I’d usually get these responses:

“That’s so cool! I wish I could do that.”

and…

“That’s networking (network marketing/ MLM), right?”

Uhhhh no. I’m not doing MLM (at least not actively. I am a member of an MLM company for its products).

Let’s get that out of the way first.

So, what do I do as a work at home mom really?

I am currently maintaining one client (personal choice) and I lead her company’s digital marketing team. We have a team of graphic designer, content writer, copywriter, website designer and social media manager – all of us come from different countries but we’re definitely working on a common goal.

That’s the beauty of hiring services of remote/work from home professionals!

I used to do content writing and social media marketing/management for previous clients.

Prior to doing these shenanigans, I used to work in the corporate world as a Sales Manager but let me tell you this- I’m not going back to a corporate job!

Here are 7 reasons why I love being a work at home mom:

I set my own schedule & have a lot of free time to attend to my daughter

I don’t open all my work-related stuff (messaging apps, project management system etc.) in the morning because I chose that time to be “my time”.

Mornings are for preparing Saehee (my daughter) for school, doctor’s appointments, grocery shopping and other things that I consider to be personal in nature.

Then in the afternoon, that’s when I start working on my tasks.

I leave my client tasks when my daughter goes home from school and I finish them when she goes to bed at night.

I can also attend her school programs and other extra-curricular activities regardless of what day it is in the week.

On weekends, I usually don’t work on my client’s stuff so I try to finish any big task by Friday. These two days are spent on working and building my personal brand with the help of this blog and my YouTube channel.

I understand that not all work from home professionals can set their own schedule because some clients have set working times.

Which will lead me to my next reason…

I choose who I work with

I have turned down multiple client proposals because of the set working hours. Most of those that I didn’t accept wanted me to work on a US time and I’m currently based in the Philippines – so that would require me to work late at night and all throughout wee hours of my morning.

No, thank you!

I have full control of my income

I can work as much or as little as I please. Obviously, if I want to earn more then I have to put in more hours or get some more clients to add my income.

Like I said above, I chose to work with one client because I want to free up a chunk of my time to work on my personal brand.

I usually work 4-5 hours a day on my client’s tasks. If there’s a big project that I have to spend money on, I can always up my working hours or I can bring in a new client.

Plus, I earn in US dollars which is quite a beauty when you are living in the Philippines!

I don’t have to commute to work daily

I’m a home buddy. I prefer staying at home – I feel more productive and inspired when I’m on my desk at home.

It also saves a lot of money to spend on fares or car fuel.

And traffic, I get to escape that too!

I can schedule vacations at my convenience

Gone are the days when my family would go on a trip and I’m left at home because I have to punch in 9-6 in a clock.

Since ‘working from home’ is really a ‘work anywhere’ with my laptop and a wifi, I can pretty much be anywhere and still work on my client’s tasks.

I can be in Bali, enjoying the picturesque beauty of the island, and still deliver projects.

I have learned and grown a lot as a person

Since working for myself is pretty much a one-woman-show kind of a business (for now), I have to do everything on my own.

I am not a website designer but I taught myself how to build this website from scratch.

I am not a graphic designer but I taught myself how to create graphics in Canva.

I don’t have a Marketing degree but I taught myself how to market my business and get clients.

I didn’t study business in college but I am maneuvering my business on my own – creating business plans, acquiring and maintaining clients and also learning how to let go of some if ever a need arises.

I’ve learned a tremendous amount about personal finances and financial planning which I never cared for when I was receiving a fixed salary.

Developing a good amount of discipline is one of the perks, too!

Working from home and working at your own time is so lax that it can sometimes make you lazy.

I had to discipline myself to work on client tasks even when I feel like watching movies the whole day, or discipline myself to do household chores and keep our house look like humans are actually living in it.

Let’s not forget that my interpersonal skill is better than ever! I learned how to network well both online and offline to land paying clients.

I’m fulfilling my goal of being my own boss

I’m not late for work because I can start [and stop] working anytime that I want. I am someone who likes to work on things at my own pace, I can make several adjustments but it won’t work if I have to do it on a daily basis.

I get to make decisions for myself and no one has to tell me what to do or what not to do.

I remember my mom telling me as a young girl, “you’re not meant to work for someone else. You should be your own boss!”

And boy was she right!

What are the things that you love about working from home? Or are you considering to work from home?
